Charming Upgraded Home in Byrnes Downs
What the Seller Says!
Why “The Ocho” is a fantastic place to live:
What we love most about this home is accessibility. Moving from a city, we prioritized buying a home that didn’t require a car as the only option for transportation. Being able to easily and safely walk to TWO vibrant business communities gives Byrnes Downs a distinctly unique and perfect location in West Ashley. The sidewalks provide a valuable human component to neighborhood streets. Being inside the elbow of Folly Road and Savannah Highway means that we can walk or ride our bikes via the Greenway or neighborhood roads for hours without having to encounter highway traffic. Our cars often stay parked all weekend long.
When we do get behind the wheel, the home is easily accessible to five neighborhood exit points, which is great when navigating around sometimes-thick Savannah Highway traffic. By car, this property is 5 minutes to MUSC, 10 minutes to I-526, 13 minutes to I-26 at Cosgrove, 15 minutes to upper peninsula or Mt. Pleasant, and 22 minutes to Folly Beach.
We are thrilled about the increased attention that West Ashley will be getting from the city in the coming years, including development of the dedicated bike lane on the inbound Ashley River bridge that will connect to the 10 mile Greenway, just four doors down.
We frequent all of the local restaurants, but we particularly enjoy Al Di La for romantic nights out, and for family dinners we routinely visit Triangle Char & Bar, Mellow Mushroom, Yobo, and Osaka. On weekends, we walk to Normandy Farms or Classic Coffee for a morning treat. Taste of India offers a buffet on weekdays that is delicious and well-priced .
Lyttleton Street is not ever affected by the traffic noise or parking problems in the front of the neighborhood, but is not buried in the back. The neighborhood is a very safe place to raise a family.
Old homes have soul. We love caring for and living in a home that has stories in its walls. Before the upstairs was “finished,” a former family built a giant model train that literally ran through the cubbies and eaves of the attic.
We knocked down a few walls to open up the floorplan to be a bit more casual and modern, and we entertain with ease in this house. The heart pine bar was built from a column in a old textile mill in Joanna, SC, and becomes the social hub when guests visit. When there are too many for the dining and kitchen area, we spill out on to the deck.
We like that the bedrooms are on separate “wings” of the house. Everyone has privacy, yet our home is compact enough that we can still interact easily. We love that this home is small enough to maintain easily, and big enough to raise a family.
The old grand oak tree in the backyard is a perfect Lowcountry backdrop to provide shade and privacy. It stays at least 10 degrees cooler in the backyard during the summer thanks to that beautiful tree.
Byrnes Downs has an active and supportive neighborhood culture. Most residents are homeowners, and enjoy seasonal get togethers to build community.
